The program 'Oltremonatani' by the Diskantores ensemble brings music from the Low Countries from the 14th and 15th centuries into the spotlight. Singers and music from the Low Countries were in great demand in Italy during the 15th and 16th centuries. The first of these 'oltremontani' ('the one from over the mountains') is usually mentioned as Guillaume Du Fay († Cambrai 1474). However, the earliest musical contacts between the Netherlands and Italy took place around 1400. Musical clerics such as Johannes Engardus (from Bruges), Hubertus de Salinis and Johannes Ciconia (both from the principality of Liège) crossed the Alps to make a career in Italy.
